What is Therapy?

"Therapy is not about giving advice or problem solving. From my perspective it's about understanding the behaviors, thoughts and beliefs about these problems assisting the individual in coming to their own greater understanding and possible solution of the problem. I believe that each person holds the answers to their problems within themselves and just needs guidance to finding these answers.

My style of therapy is founded mostly in psycho-dynamic principles. Meaning, I focus a lot on the childhood and relations with significant family members early on in childhood as possible explanations and solutions to current problems. I also utilize cognitive behavioral techniques, solution focused theories, and humanistic.  Ultimately it comes down to the the individual client and what is most effective for the client so that they get the most out of therapy.

What Can I Expect From Therapy?

It's my belief that therapy is most sought when a person gets stuck trying to solve a problem(s),using what has worked in the past, (advice and solutions from friends and family) has failed.

I offer a good balance of gentle nurturing and trustworthiness combined with an ability to challenge and confront when needed. I will tell you not always what you want to hear but what you need to hear. I work collaboratively with my clients and invite them to tell me how their therapy is working for them and adjust my style if needed."   -Julie Druyor, MFT
